In addition to his work as a physician at GK Neiroklīnika, Associate Professor Guntis Karelis helps train future physicians at the Department of Infectology and Dermatology of Rīga Stradiņš University. He regularly (several times per year) attends different conferences, seminars and meetings in Europe (Germany, France, Latvia, etc.), as well as the USA and Canada. Regular training and exchange of experience allows one to introduce the latest and most effective methods, as well as diagnostic and therapeutic devices at GK Neiroklīnika. The principal areas of research of Assoc. Prof. Guntis Karelis include tick-borne diseases, peripheral nervous system diseases and neural infections. He actively participates in research and is a member of different organisations; among others, he is a Board Member of the Latvian Association of Neurodegenerative Diseases and a member of the European Neurological Society.
