Education and experience

Neurologist Madara Mičule has obtained the principal education of a physician at the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Continuing Education of Rīga Stradiņš University. During the clinical practice of her residential studies, she obtained additional knowledge in Italy, where she had the first experience with the sleep laboratory. Madara Mičule obtained practical experience during her residential studies at the Clinic of Neurology of the Clinical Centre Gaiļezers of Riga East Clinical University Hospital, where she worked as an apprentice physician at the Centre of Emergency Medicine. Since 2014, the specialist has been working at the Riga Medical College of the University of Latvia, where she trains assistant physicians and masseurs. Neurologist Madara Mičule regularly participates in international conferences, as well as learns sleep-related examination methods. Madara Mičule is not only highly motivated and interested in personal development as regards the treatment of sleep disorders, but also updates and popularises this area of medicine on a national level: by not only promoting work on the consequences of sleep disorders and diseases, but also by educating on sleep hygiene, the prevention of diseases and the importance of healthy sleep. Sleep is one of our basic physiological needs, which is often overlooked and removed from our list of priorities, however, it should not be the case, since scientific publications are providing an increasing body of evidence that insufficient sleep serves as a risk factor in the development of different diseases.
